Diamonds and Rainbow Village at Duluth First United Methodist Church
I had the most wonderful opportunity on Sunday, April 6, to speak at Duluth First United Methodist Church, about Rainbow Village. Not only is it always my privilege to talk about the families and mission of Rainbow Village, but this church holds a special place in my heart . . . . 14 years ago, my husband proposed to me in their sanctuary, put a beautiful ring on my finger, and asked for my hand in marriage in front of God. I couldn’t help but smile and share that special story as I told many familiar faces, and some new ones, about how grateful we are for the support of Duluth First UMC for their unending support and loyalty over the years, and for their recognition of Rainbow Village as a mission partner. Rainbow Village and Duluth First UMC are not only neighbors in the geographical sense, but also in the sense of community they provide us. Volunteers from the church support us with their time, their talents, and their treasure. I’d like to give a special thank you to our Faith Partner Liaison, Linda Berry, as well as Mission Chairman Robert Donaldson, Senior Pastor Tommy Green and Associate Pastor C. Kay Fuino.
Duluth First UMC is one of the many active Faith Partners that support Rainbow Village in a variety of ways from supporting families through prayer, hosting kids and adult birthday celebrations, providing monthly apartment essentials drives (such as Duluth First UMC is doing in May), making summer camp survival kits for Rainbow Village children, making meals for Rainbow Village families twice each week during the school year before evening education classes, and much much more. Thank you Duluth First United Methodist for your warmth and your hospitality. I felt right at home.
